Langston Hughes (1901–1967) was a poet, social activist, novelist, playwright, columnist, and a significant figure of the Harlem Renaissance.
He grew up in Lawrence, Kansas. He was a major leader of the Harlem Renaissance. He was a poet of the people. He was more than just a poet; he was a writer in almost any genre you can think of. He was rebellious, breaking from the black literary establishment.
